Microplanning

The Department of Agriculture Himachal Pradesh is implementing Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project (Phase-II), a JICA funded project through HP Agriculture Development Society (a registered Body under HP Cooperative societies Registration Act, 2006). The project covers all Districts of Himachal Pradesh. There are 306 sub project sites covering 25500 households which are targeted to be transformed to provide minor irrigation facilities and sustain them through Participatory Irrigation Management. The farming community is to be motivated, regrouped and trained to adopt crop diversification and intensification. Besides this various livelihood programs for resource poor have been designed including group production and marketing.

• Sub Project Development Plan has been formulated in line with the approved Project Document, enabling the KVA members to plan their cropping patterns according to the changing needs and priorities for sustainable development. This document will also help the communities to review the progress made against the plan and put forth focused effort in accomplishing the work with in stipulated timeline. Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercise including group discussion, experience sharing, one to one discussion with the villagers etc. was conducted to promote people’s participation in project planning, implementation and monitoring. Information on various issues concerning crop diversification was explained to the villagers. Preparation of existing land use map, seasonal Calander (Cropping season) and wealth ranking exercise were adopted with available technical inputs and in consultation with all the stakeholders. House- hold survey was carried out in the village covering all KVA families. Transect walk was done strategically with some local farmers. To collect information from the field for deciding upon the suitability of the proposed land use.
• Microplanning: an effective tool for assessing current farming situations of the beneficiary farmers applied for drafting of Sub Project Development plan for each sub project area being covered under Phase-II of HPCDP.
